Online Workshops 2021

Workshops are live streamed from the Studio of Romolo Del Deo. Resident Apprentices working with Romolo in the studio will share the process with video conferenced subscribers, who can contribute to the process remotely, work from the same models and studio projects and fully participate in every way, except being physically in the room. All workshops come with in depth materials and tools consultation. Participants are urged to enroll and contact SRA early to order their materials and tools needs for the respective workshops. The workshops are organized in two main parts which can be taken together, as an entire course of instruction, or separately in any component pieces, according to the needs of the participant.

Transformational and Practical Training in Sculptural Creativity, Idea Building and Artistic Mastery. Taken in parts or as a complete curriculum, the Studio Romolo Method is a nine-week program designed to guide participants to create a completed work of sculpture utilizing the sculptor's process, from nature study to conceptual studio work. This method can train beginners and experienced artists alike in creative thinking and artistic invention. In the first half of the summer, participants work from life to develop an understanding of how the observed natural world is constructed. In the second half of the summer, participants are encouraged to discover how to develop ideas and visual thinking beyond the natural world to the conceptual.

SRA focuses on traditional methods to understand and confront the challenges of creating contemporary art. A wide range of art history and cultures are examined in support of hands-on workshops. These workshops use time tested methods of the Italian Masters, applied to contemporary thinking about creativity and thought. All workshops use traditional methods and traditional materials, which are, in most cases, more natural and have fewer health side effects than synthetic modern materials. Traditional materials uniformly produce superior results. They do require more practice to master, but reward the artist with greater subtly of expression and richness of experience.

Payment in full is required to participate in a workshop. Participants may enroll by booking blocks of time, from 1 day to the entire Summer Session. There are 9 weeks in the complete program. It operates 5 days a week, M-F, mornings from 9-12 PM. There are no additional fees, however online students are responsible for their own art supplies.
